How Long Does Dental Whitening Last?

Posted on 2/8/2021 by Dagon Jones DDS
How Long Does Dental Whitening Last?Dental whitening has become very popular over the last few years and for good reason. People with whiter teeth are normally viewed as much more attractive and younger than people who have stained or discolored teeth. Tooth stains can happen to anyone and can easily be treated by a whitening procedure at our dental offices. However, how long does a dental whitening really last? It is understandable to want to make sure your investment in your smile is worth it.

At Home Whitening vs. In Office Whitening

Tooth whitening can be accomplished at home, although there are some sacrifices you will make for the cost and convenience of doing the procedure yourself. At-home tooth whitening kits do not have as high a percentage of the compound that actually makes your teeth whiter, which is carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. These are natural bleaching agents that are found in most tooth whitening products.

Tooth whitening at home can also be risky. It may be difficult and messy to do it correctly, and you want to be very careful of applying the whitening agent to your gums or other parts of your mouth besides your teeth. A tooth whitening procedure at home will also not last very long - at the most, only a few months before you will need to repeat.

Teeth whitening procedures in our office are much more comprehensive, safe, and will last a lot longer than at-home procedures. A simple appointment that only takes a small part of your day will have safely and thoroughly whitened teeth, and you may see the effects of an in-office tooth whitening procedure for up to a year before you think about having another procedure done.

If you are considering an in-office teeth whitening procedure, give our knowledgeable team a call today and let us set you up with an appointment. We look forward to helping you get a brighter, happier smile!
