When it comes to keeping your body healthy, especially your mouth, you want to make sure that you eat a wide range of different colored foods each day. This is especially in reference to produce.
The more colors you can add into your diet, the more benefits your mouth gets out of each meal. If you can, you want to try and get at least one serving of each color group into your diet on a daily basis. Here are some foods to try and include in meals each day.
Foods to Try and Eat Regularly
For red foods, try adding beets, tomatoes, watermelon, and strawberries into your diet. For orange foods, try eating papaya, mango, oranges, carrots, and squash. Yellow foods include bananas, peppers, lemons, and pineapple. Green foods include lots of leafy, green vegetables like spinach and kale, peppers, limes, and broccoli. Finally, there is the blue and purple category.
This should include blueberries, plums, cabbage, purple potatoes, grapes, and purple figs. The more varied your diet is each day, the more benefits your entire body will receive. The foods pass through your mouth first, and as they are chewed, release many of their vital nutrients. This means that your mouth is able to grab hold of those nutrients and use them immediately.
If you aren't sure if you take proper care of your mouth through your diet, ask your dentist. They can tell a lot about what you eat just by looking at the overall condition of your mouth. Talk to them about what they see in your mouth, and ask them what things you could do to improve your overall oral health. They will likely be able to point out one or two things that would greatly help your mouth's health.
