Brushing your teeth is something you should do at least twice a day for at least 2 minutes each time. Brushing is important to remove plaque and bacteria from your teeth. Be sure to also floss or use a water pik to clean between your teeth.
Brushing and the Time Needed
It is important that you brush and floss only as recommended. Brushing with excessive force can be abrasive to the outside of the teeth and gum tissue.
You want to make sure that you are using a soft bristle toothbrush, avoid brushes marked medium or firm. Use a gentle circular motion and angle the bristles at a 45 degree angle at the gumline. Avoid long back and forth strokes as this technique tends to be too forceful.
You should also refrain from brushing right after you have had something acidic of very sugary. After eating acidic or sugary foods the enamel is temporary softer and is more prone to abrasion by brushing. It is best to rinse with water after eating these foods then wait at least 30 minutes before brushing.
