Diets Impact on Oral Health

Foods rich in sugars and carbohydrates contribute to tooth decay since they give bacteria within the mouth support to attack the teeth. The bacteria feed on these sugars and carbohydrates, releasing acids that cause tooth enamel erosion.

Fruits, vegetables, and protein-based foods improve oral health by strengthening the jawbone and maintaining the gums' health. The nutrients and minerals in a diet rich in fruits and vegetables keep the teeth and teeth tissue strong and healthy to fight off bacteria and diseases.

Drinking plenty of water is a key diet factor that positively impacts dental health. Hydration maintains the release and production of saliva in the mouth and helps remove food particles and bacteria that cause gum diseases and tooth decay.

Smoking Impact on Oral Health

Smoking impacts oral and dental health in diverse ways. Regular smoking leads to the formation of dry mouth, which causes halitosis. Also, the continuous smoke from smoking causes inflammation of the gums and may cause bleeding. Eventually, tooth loss occurs, which leaves holes and spaces for the bacterial to attack.

A great danger of smoking to oral health is that it causes the development of oral cancer, which may lead to tooth loss and jawbone damage, and if not treated, cancer can spread to other parts of the body. More so, smoking is a hindrance to healing after a dental procedure.

Regular smokers are also heavy drinkers and these two lead to poor oral health. Alcohol leads to low saliva release in the mouth, making oral and dental health vulnerable to attack and increasing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease.

Both diet and smoking affect dental and oral health significantly; hence it is necessary to include a balanced diet and avoid smoking and alcohol consumption to improve oral health and prevent the development of oral problems.
